Sapa is the beautiful town of Sapa District in Lao Cai Province, which is a mountainous border province in the Midlands and Northern mountain region of Vietnam, neighboring the Northwest and the Northeast regions of Vietnam. The North of Lao Cai shares borders with China and the West is adjacent to Lai Chau Province while the East is neighboring Ha Giang Province, not to mention Yen Bai Province which abuts on Lao Cai to the south. Sapa District is a second-order administrative division in Lao Cai.
